Scottish Mid-Trail Championships return to Falkland Estate this weekend

Thursday 1st September 2022

Event information

After a break of three years due to Covid, the Scottish Mid-Trail Championships return to the beautiful Falkland Estate in Fife on Sunday, within Fife AC’s Festival of Trail Running.

There are championships for U15, U17 and U20, Senior and Masters run in three mixed gender races (U15, U17 and Open). There are also taster races for U11s and U13s.

While the entries are not quite back to the 2019 level it’s good to see a record entry in the U15 race.

The women’s senior race appears to be as open as it can be; the women’s senior team race looks like a battle between Cambuslang Harriers, Edinburgh AC and home club Fife AC.

In the Masters categories, present and former cross country age group winners Jennifer MacLean, Heather Anderson, Janet Dunbar and Margaret Martin line up to secure more gold. Linden Nicholson is certain to win the F70 gold.

The senior men’s championship sees new Scottish International Lewis Rodgers and Scottish 1500m champion Ben Sandilands (both Fife AC) facing up to James Donald (Dundee Hawkhill), Christian Graham (Lasswade AAC) and Hamish Hickey (Central AC). The team race will see a battle between a youthful Dundee Hawkhill against a not so youthful, but effective, Cambuslang with Fife AC somewhere in the middle.

The 2019 event saw Inverclyde AC’s Jonny Glen and Central AC athlete Fanni Gyurko take the Senior golds. Hunters Bog Trotters won the men’s team race with Edinburgh AC taking the women’s golds.

As in 2019 Stornoway RAC have made a long weekend of the championships with 16 athletes competing over the 6 championships.

The base for the day is Falkland Community Hall, KY15 7BX – thanks in advance to hosts Fife AC, and all the officials and volunteers involved in staging the event.
