scottishathletics regrets to confirm that the Lindsays National XC is postponed.
The event was originally scheduled for Callendar Park Falkirk in March – later than the usual February date in order to try and beat Covid-19.
Further plans were sketched out to take the Lindsays National XC event to Scone Palace in Perth in some format over both Saturday 6 March and Sunday 7 March.
Unfortunately, working closely with the Road Running and Cross Country Commission, we have had to accept that extended lockdown restrictions from the Scottish Government to help the fight against Covid-19 mean that will no longer be possible.
If there are opportunities later in the competition year (up to end September) to stage some kind of Lindsays National XC event, then these will be fully explored in consultation with the RR and CC Commission.
We will stage our next Lindsays Virtual Road Challenge event over the weekend of Feb 19-22 (more details on that in a separate story).
Once again we would stress our thanks for the support and patience of our members and clubs during the pandemic and sticking with us as we plan, and plan again, our scheduled events.
It is hugely disappointing and frustrating that the Lindsays National XC, which has been growing in popularity so much in recent years with almost 100 clubs represented, will not take place this winter/spring.
While other National XC events across Britain were cancelled earlier, we tried to wait as long as possible to give the event a chance of happening.
But we fully understand the reasons and advice from Scottish Government and sportscotland and the continued safety of our members is the key issue in phased returns to more group activity and physical events.
*PLEASE NOTE we’re asking all members and clubs to continue to stick with the Covid-19 restrictions. Guidance on all areas is on our Covid-19 section on the website.
