Laura wins gold double at Glasgow 2019 European Indoors

Scotland’s very own Laura Muir aims to race at the Glasgow 2024 World Indoors.

The Emirates Arena hosts the World Athletics Indoor championships on March 1-3 next year with tickets already all but sold out.

And scottishathletics are delighted to confirm multiple medallist Laura is making plans to be there and contest the Women’s 3000m.

Jemma Reekie has already underlined her aims to compete in the 800m at Glasgow 2024 and Neil Gourley, who won Men’s 1500m silver at the European Indoors last March, is automatically selected via his performances in the 2023 World Indoor Series.

Laura, of course, won a stunning 1500m-3000m gold double at the European Indoors at Glasgow 2019 and can’t wait to savour the Emirates Arena atmosphere again.

‘I am delighted to confirm that racing at the World Indoor Championships held in Glasgow in March is in my plans,’ said Laura, now working with Steve Vernon.

‘Obviously it is an Olympic year and there will be a huge focus on Paris in terms of our training camps and race plans.

‘But after thinking it through, me and my coach felt that Glasgow 2024 was too good an opportunity to miss.

‘I feel incredibly lucky to have been able to compete at a Commonwealth and European level championship in Scotland before so cannot wait to add a global competition to the list.

‘It is a home championships once again and I like nothing better than racing in front of a packed Scottish crowd at the Emirates Arena.

‘Glasgow 2019 and winning both the 1500m and the 3000m titles that weekend remains one of the best memories in my career. I’m excited at the thought of racing there again in front of family and friends.

‘Looking at the schedules for the week and linking in with wider plans around that point of the year (prior to Paris) we’ve decided the 3000m (straight final) will work best for me. I’m looking forward to it and hopefully a few top Scots can make the GB and NI team.’

Tickets for the World Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow 24 have been in very high demand and are currently sold out across all six sessions.

However more tickets may become available closer to the event – make sure to keep checking the Glasgow 2024 website and social media channels to be the first to hear if this happens.
