Junior Hill recce runs for Euro trials; Kelsey back to track

Thursday 24th March 2022

Young Scottish hill runners are being given the chance to take ‘recce’ runs over trial courses in Scotland for the European Off-Road Champs.

Angela Mudge, our Hill Running Lead, is making plans for the training sessions during forthcoming school holidays.

The trials for the European events are taking place in Scotland in May – so there’s a great chance now for athletes born in the years 2003 to 2006 to become familiar with the courses.

Angela is setting up a recce of the uphill only trial, Ben Lomond, on Wednesday 6 April, and a recce of the up and down course, Alva, on Wednesday 13 April. Both will start at 10.30am.

The course at Alva is also being used as the trial for the U18 Mountain Cup.

If you are interested in coming along to a recce please contact Angela on angela.mudge@scottishathletics.org.uk

Scotland and GB U23 international Kelsey Stewart is back on the track after her bobsleigh experience.

The Aberdeen AAC athlete took a break from athletics last year and reached the final six for a GB 2026 Winter Olympic programme for skeleton racing before losing out in the last selection cut.

Now Zoey Clark has confirmed Kelsey is back training again and will join the Olympian on a three-week training trip to Dubai.

‘It’s good Kelsey is getting back into athletics,’ Zoey told the Press and Journal. ‘She has a fantastic personality and has been doing really well in the sessions. Hopefully Dubai will be good for her.’

Kelsey recently worked with Vinco as a commentator on our Lindsays National XC coverage.
