Para sport in Scotland, and the wider athletics community, has lost one of its great characters and competitors with the death of Jimmy Sands.
The Paralympic gold medallist from 1988 passed away late last week.
Sands was one of a quartet of Scottish athletes with cerebral palsy who dominated cross country and track sprints around the period of Seoul 1988.
He was active with Ron Hill Cambuslang Harriers and Red Star AC until a recent spell of illness.
scottishathletics would like to condolences to all Jimmy’s family and friends at this sad time.
Jimmy’s funeral will be held this Friday (6 June) at Woodside Crematorium, Paisley, at 1pm. No flowers, please, but any donations to Accord hospice would be much appreciated.
