Sad news on Ian Silver, Official and Dundee Hawkhill Harriers club stalwart

Tuesday 22nd March 2022

scottishathletics are sad to inform of the passing of Ian Silver, a real stalwart of the sport in Scotland.

Ian, who was 81, sadly passed away peacefully at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee last weekend.

He had been involved in athletics in Scotland for 40 years, coaching his daughter Lorna from U13 up to Scottish Senior teams and and GB and NI U23 vests  in hurdles.

Over the years Ian remained coaching as well as becoming an Official in the Start/Starter’s Assistant discipline and only retired two years ago from a key volunteer role as President of Dundee Hawkhill Harriers.

Ian will be sadly missed by all at the club and all his friends and colleagues in the sport. We send our thoughts and sympathy to Freda, Lorna, Fiona and all the family.

*Ian Silver’s funeral will take place on Thursday 31 March at 10.30am at Dundee Crematorium, Macalpine Road, Dundee  DD3 8SD.

All are welcome to attend.

With thanks to Andy Law
