M65 Record for Paul Forbes

Top performances by Scottish Masters athletes are a regular feature across the scene in Scotland and the recent holiday period is no different.

Just prior to Christmas there was a superb indoor track performance by Paul Forbes as he set M65 World Record for 800m.

But our Masters athletes are equally adept on the roads and Fiona Matheson and Alastair Walker proved that time and again during 2021.

So good time for us to highlight another superb performance from Fiona at the Tilli 10k event organised by PH Racing.

The Falkirk Victoria Harriers Masters athlete clocked a 38:40 chip time and that’s a new British best for the F60 age group for 10k on the roads.

Congratulations, Fiona, on a great way to end a year of very strong performances . . .

Meanwhile, Alastair Walker was able to reflect on a Record-breaking 2021 during which he set a series of age group bests over 10k and 5k.

‘Turning 65 gave me some new goals to aim for and breaking some records has been a real thrill for me,ā€™ the Teviotdale Harriers athlete told The Hawick Paper, (with our thanks to Gary Heatly).

‘I ran really well in the summer months then had the injury that stopped me for a while, but it has been great to get back into running competitively in the last couple of months and my training has been pretty consistent during December.

‘With current restrictions, things are a bit up in the air with regards to events in 2022, but I am still 65 for a few more months and I am feeling good and want to keep breaking records and testing myself.

‘Winning events, running good times and setting records is exciting no matter what age you are, Iā€™m looking forward to kicking on again during 2022.’
