The Great Stirling Run hosts our scottishathletics Marathon Championships again in April.

It is the second successive year this event will have included the Scottish Championships – and entries are still open.

Sunday 28 April is the date for scottishathletics members to look forward to for the 2019 champs, with the Road Running and Cross Country Commission having taken a decision to give the event championship status for the second time.

It means medals will be up for grabs for individuals and for teams on April 28 – runners with a valid scottishathletics membership will be eligible for those medals.

‘We’re delighted that the Simplyhealth Great Stirling Run marathon will once again host the Scottish Marathon Championships,’ said Nigel Gough of GreatRun.

‘With Stirling also hosting the 10K championships and the upcoming Simplyhealth Great Stirling XCountry featuring the Scottish Inter District races, this really reinforces Stirling’s position at the heart of Scottish running.

‘The marathon course features 26.2miles of bespoke marathon running with no laps, or out and back sections, and will provide the ultimate challenge to our runners and we’re already looking forward to what should be a thrilling race next April.’

Following constructive feedback from the launch year of 2017, a new and improved course was used in 2018 which showcased the beautiful scenery and historic landmarks of central Scotland, starting and finishing in the city centre.

Central AC’s Michael Wright and Alison McGill of Fife AC took the Scottish marathon individual golds in Stirling earlier this year.
