Eight Scots head for World Mountain and Trail Champs in Austria

Eight Scottish athletes have been picked for the GB&NI team, for the 2023 World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in Innsbruck-Stubai, Austria.

The championships take place between 7-10 June with the eight Scots representing a strong contingent on the 33-strong team.

Among them are 2023 European Off-Road Running Championships medallist Scout Adkin, who will take part in the uphill only and up-and-down races, and brother Jacob Adkin, the 2019 European champion – who is joined by Andrew Douglas in both the uphill only and up-and-down races.

Team Leader, Anne Buckley, said: ‘After the successes on the world and European stage in 2022, we are delighted to be taking a strong team to Innsbruck-Stubai.

‘After the competitive trial events recently, several major championship medallists are selected for the squad, and it is fantastic to also select some athletes to a GB & NI team for the very first time.

‘They have all earned their spot and we look forward to seeing how they perform in Austria next month.’

The full team announcement comes after last month’s early selection for some athletes, including Meryl Cooper and Jasmin Paris.

The selection also includes Welsh athlete Kris Jones, who is based in Scotland and represents Dundee Hawkhill Harriers, and will run in the short trail race.
