Team announcement by British Athletics

British Athletics have named a number of trail athletes to compete for GB and NI at the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in Innsbruck-Stubia, Austria.

There are places in the team for the event in June for Scottish duo Meryl Cooper and Jasmin Paris.

And Welsh athlete Kris Jones, who is based in Scotland and represents Dundee Hawkhill Harriers, will also head for Austria.

In the women’s long trail event, Jasmin Paris (Carnethy HRC) will represent GB and NI for the first time since 2019 when she raced at the IAU Ultra Trail Championships in Portugal. Jasmin is coached by Damian Hall.

In recent weeks she became only the second woman ever to complete four loops of the Barkley marathon (a 100-mile event in the USA), so will head into the race in strong form.

She will be joined by Meryl Cooper (Deeside Runners) who represented the country at the World Championships in Thailand last November where she finished in 34th position. Meryl is coached by David Roche.

Kristian Jones is one of those pre-selected for the short trail race. The rest of the short trail team will be selected after the Trial race – the Three Peaks race – later this month.

Congratulations to the athletes and their families as well as their coaches and clubs on selection for World Champs.
