Perfect conditions didn’t quite materialise in Dundee on a grey Saturday as a big weekend of #4Jathletics kicked off with strong entry numbers for Masters and Combined Events Championships as well as Para and Steeplechase events.
But the atmosphere around the Regional Performance Centre was undeniably both feelgood and inclusive.
Athletes from as young as U13 to as old as the V80 category milled around before and after competition as if to demonstrate our sport is for everyone.
And that ethos was only underlined by a wide range of classification being evident among our Para event athletes – including Dwarf, ambulant, wheelchair, Frame Running and T20.
We send a big thank you to all our athletes and coaches who supported the event, our venue hosts at the Regional Performanced Centre, and of course our scottishathletics Officials.

In the Masters events, M45 athlete Grant Baillie had quite a weekend as the East Kilbride AC athlete clocked 10:07.94 in the 3000m steeplechase on Saturday and followed that up on Sunday with an impressive 15:28.72 in the 5000m.
In the Masters long jump, w40 Gillian Cooke was at 4.79m as W50 Fiona Davidson leapt to 4.32m.
Also on Saturday, the 800m action saw W40 Laura Haggerty of Kilmarnock Harriers at 2:20.49 with a strong run in the Men’s race by David Scott of Cumbernauld AAC as the M35 went close to breaking two minutes with 2:00.39. Just as impressive was M75 George Hunter’s 800m run at 3:05.64.
The Masters 1500m included an opportunity for Para athlete Steven Bryce of Fife AC to try and post a time to catch the attention of the GB and NI selectors for the Paralympics. With pace-making help, Steven clocked 4:02.42 and now the Fife AC athlete heads for the London Diamond League.
It was good to see Para sprinters Ross Paterson and Alexander Thomson, who represented Scotland at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, in track action in Dundee.
