Results from Chelmsford

Promoting a ‘feelgood factor’ in our sport is a common theme across our channels and it is natural to  expect the governing body to ‘accentuate the positive’ in reporting our sport.

When the medal tally reaches 20 for Scots at the England Athletics U23 and U20 Champs, however, the evidence is not in dispute!

That’s what happened over a couple of days in Chelmsford as Scottish athletes beat a regular path to the podium to the delight and pride of their families, coaches and clubs.

We celebrate, too, because the success reflects well on the current pathway in Scotland and international selections will follow this week for GB and NI in European events – which will further develop these talented and dedicated young athletes.

We make it automatic selections as follows:

European Juniors: Natasha Phillips, Tendai Nyabadza

European U23 Champs: Sarah Calvert, Sarah Tait, Brodie Young, Eloise Walker (and Alice Goodall, previously)

Eight gold medals amid that overall haul of 20 is another powerful statement and should be source of excitement for all across our #SALtogether community.

And while we list the athletes who made the podium below there were strong performances amid PBs and places in finals by many others (we made it at least half a dozen fourth places).

So to have close to 30 athletes in these two age groups in the ‘medal zone’ is excellent and only adds to the aforementioned, and bona fide, feelgood factor.
