Callum Hawkins and Eilish McColgan have opened up 2019 with fine performances on the road – with each delivering a Personal Best over 10K.
Callum raced in Spain last Sunday and finished third European in the Valencia 10K in a time of 28.55 which was his first under 29 minutes.
The Kilbarchan AAC athlete did so off only a few weeks training after injury and is now headed to America for a further block of training ahead of the Virgin Money London Marathon in April.
Eilish for her part ran a PB of 31.51 to win the Doha 10K, improving on the times of 31.56 and 31.53 she has clocked at the last two editions of the event.
Those times in 2017 and 2018 ended up leading each year’s British rankings.
McColgan placed 10th overall, and only her mum and coach, Liz McColgan-Nuttall, is quicker on the Scottish all-time list for Women’s 10K. And all this only just after signing a new kit deal with Asics . . .
*Good to see Scots in America performing well indoors with a win for Josh Kerr over 800m in 1.49.61 in Seattle and a win in the mile for Chris O’Hare in 3.57.97.
