Hammer time! Chris delivers best throw by a Scot in Scotland
Chris Bennett will be back in a GB and NI vest early next month after British Athletics selected three athletes for the European Throwing Cup in Croatia.
Bennett, who is coached by Andy Frost, joins fellow hammer thrower Taylor Campbell and Scott Lincoln in the team for Split to compete on May 8/9 at the event, which is celebrating its 20th Anniversary.
Earlier this month at the scottishathletics 4J Studios Spring Throws Invitational Meet, Chris Bennett came up with his best throw since 2017 with an effort of 75.69m. For Chris, who competed at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, it was the third furthest throw of his career.
Also selected in the men’s hammer throw is Campbell who holds a season best of 74.38m. In the men’s shot put, Lincoln will pull on the Great Britain and Northern Ireland vest once again.
Maintaining the health and safety of all athletes, coaches and team personnel is of paramount importance to British Athletics, as is recognising athletes wishes in their preparation for the summer season, so all athletes who were eligible for selection were given the option to opt-in or opt-out of the event for this year.
