It’s Cerebral Palsy Awareness month throughout March and at scottishathletics we’re delighted to mark that with special video content.
In keeping with our inclusive approach – athletics is for everyone – many of our clubs are finding ways to offer a welcome to all athletes.
And Bellahouston Road Runners have demonstrated that emphatically with their support for CP runner, Andy Tomlinson, as our YouTube film demonstrates.
‘I started running about three years ago basically as a bit of fun and did the Madrid 10k with a pal,’ said Andy.
‘I wanted to join a club but, having CP, I was self conscious how I would fit in. I did a lot of research and came across Bellahouston Road Runners as the right place for me.’
Andy raced for the club in the Allan Scally Road Relays in Glasgow recently and memorably found himself sharing the route with Paralympians Derek Rae and Owen Miller (both of Fife AC).
Bellahouston RR head coach Gerry Scullion appears in the video and said: ‘We want to be club who are open and inclusive to everyone – and be a safe space for people who want to run.
‘Andy is a huge asset to our club, a regular at training nights and events and seeing him out running always inspires others to train hard.’
Big thank you to Kevin Queenan of Bellahouston RR for work on creating the video and helping scottishathletics on this project.
