Youngsters enjoy Sportshall competition
scottishathletics can confirm we’ve reluctantly taken the decision to discontinue our annual Sportshall Regional Finals.
The Sportshall Regional Finals have seen a rapid decline since the pandemic, with decreasing numbers of schools, teams, and pupils entering the events year-on-year, since.
In 2022, we made the difficult decision to discontinue the Secondary school regional finals, hoping that this would make the programme financially sustainable for the future.
However, with the sustained, increasing financial pressures on venues, schools, Local Authorities, and scottishathletics, it is now no longer possible to reconcile the ever-increasing costs with decreasing engagement and participation.
We fully support and encourage the continued local delivery of Sportshall; as this is where the programme has most impact in building sustainable pathways into our club and community sessions and programmes.
scottishathletics remains committed to developing and facilitating fundamental athletics, and have an exciting new programme launch on the horizon that will underpin and transform school and club fundamental athletics delivery.
We look forward to sharing more information about this programme in due course.
With thanks to Erin Gillen
