America-bound! Ten Scots named in British selection for the World Champs

Ten top Scots have been selected by British Athletics for the World Champs in Oregon next month.

And the number could rise further once those with high places in the World Rankings are considered over the next 48 hours when up-dated lists are confirmed.

It’s an excellent representation already and Scots will make up the full complement in the Men’s 1500m team as Jake Wightman, Neil Gourley and Josh Kerr are all selected.

In total, the British Athletics team numbers 64 athletes for the event in Eugene, Oregon.

Laura Muir, Jemma Reekie and Eilish McColgan feature in the Women’s endurance and there are places in individual events for sprinters Beth Dobbin and Nicole Yeargin.

Andy Butchart is selected for the fifth time for a global championship event (three x Worlds, two x Olympics) in the 5000m and Zoey Clark similarly has vast experience and will be part of the 4x400m Relay squad again.

Everyone at scottishathletics sends our warm congratulations to these athletes and their families and coaches on making selection for a global championships.

It’s a huge achievement and on these occasions we also want to thank clubs who have played a key role in their development over many years.

A number of the athletes continue to reference their initial club on a regular basis when competing at elite level.

Associated with this selection in particular would be Central AC, Aberdeen AAC, Edinburgh AC, Dundee Hawkhill Harriers, Kilbarchan AAC, Giffnock North AC and Pitreavie AAC.

*Under the Top 32 rankings system, it is hoped that further athletes may be added to the GB and NI team over the next couple of days.
