Gourley sets his 2021 goals with Olympic target

It’s been a while since we had a significant performance to report on . . .

So good to see Neil Gourley in fine form in the United States as he clocked 2:18.68 for the 1000m indoors to take the win and a facility record at the Hokie Invitational.

On the Scottish all-time list for this (not run all that often) distance, Jake Wightman is top with 2:17.51 set this time last year while Neil has closed on second-placed David Strang, who recorded 2:18.31 back in 1993.

At the same meet in Blacksburg, Virginia, CE athlete Alix Still tallied 3781 for the women’s pentathlon (11th best indoors all-time).

Got the year underway with a 1k in the old stomping grounds.

Nicole Yeargin, the sprinter who had her Scottish eligibility confirmed during 2020, clocked 53.25 with an indoor 400m run, also in the States.

And it was good to see Central AC athlete, Aidan Thompson, in strong cross country form, too.

Aidan was third in our Senior race at the Lindsays Short Course XC event at Scone Palace in Perth early in December and has clearly taken that form back across the Atlantic.
