Glasgow was a sea of colour, costumes and emotion as tens of thousands of runners took part in the AJ Bell Great Scottish Run 10K and half marathon, the biggest staging of the event in its history.

National XC champion Jamie Crowe took the Men’s title with Katrina Ballantyne winning the Women’s race.

Runners set off from St Vincent Street, crossing the River Clyde, with half marathon runners heading south through some of Glasgow’s greenest spaces, including Pollok Country Park, before a grand finish through the McLennan Arch onto Glasgow Green.

Jamie won the men’s half marathon in 63:27 with Katrina of Leeds City Athletic Club taking the women’s title in 73:33.

Shettleston’s Jamie Burns and Corstorphine AAC’s Dougie Selman took second and third. Shettleston’s Brogan Wallace and Amy Frankland of Lasswade completed the women’s podium.

There were 10k wins for Lewis Hannigan of Kilbarchan (29:32) and Nancy Scott of Edinburgh AC (33:27). Kyle Brotherton of Red Star AC won the Wheelchair 10k event.

Katrina said: ‘I didn’t expect this at all. I only signed up about a month and a half ago because a few of our friends were doing it, and I thought I’d get a bit jealous watching them all.

‘The Glasgow crowd were amazing. They really carry you round. Running is my hobby. I’m a dietitian and I run to commute, so a lot of my training is done with a backpack on, running to and from work.’

Four-time Olympian Eilish McColgan rang the half marathon start bell, while Tartan Trekker Craig Ferguson sent off the 10K runners before lacing up his trainers to take part in half marathon.

Eilish said: ‘The atmosphere in Glasgow today was incredible. Standing on the start line and seeing everyone set off was really special.

‘It was an honour to ring the bell to start the half marathon.’

Also among the runners were Paralympic skier Scott Meenagh, who took on the 10K, and Glasgow Warriors Head Coach Franco Smith, who ran the 10K for Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity alongside other Warriors staff.

The weekend began on Saturday, when over 2000 children took part in the Junior and Mini Great Scottish Run at its new home on Glasgow Green. Athena and Hammer, stars of hit BBC show Gladiators, sent the young runners on their way.

Runners on Sunday’s 10K and half marathon enjoyed a host of new additions on the course this year, including A Country Mile, a brand-new music zone bringing country anthems to the streets of Glasgow, the AJ Bell Motivation Station, where friends and family sent personal messages to their runners, and a giant AJ Bell photo moment.

Entries for the 2027 AJ Bell Great Scottish Run are now open, with a Super Earlybird offer for those who sign up before Monday 12 October.

The 2027 staging of the event will take place on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 October 2027.
