Aberdeen action: Discus thrower Nick wins ninth Scottish title . . . but he’s not about to chuck it

Nick Percy pitched the discus out to beyond 59m to claim the ninth Scottish Senior title of his career.
But the triple Commonwealth Games athlete then underlined he’s not about to throw in the towel.
Nick spoke to us after day one of the 4J Senior Champs when there were track titles for the likes of Sofia Vidak, Josh Scott, Holly Whittaker and Krishawn Aiken in a busy programme that included our U18 Champs.
Chris Bennett retired at Glasgow 2026 and, at time of writing, Kirsty Law is in the ‘departure lounge’ of her superb career.
Nick, in the hunt for at the very least a slice of our 4J Senior Champs prize pot of £3000, is not about to join them.
Para athlete Chris Jacquin hit the prize pot standard, tooo, for Frame Running 4000m. The T71 Corstrorphine AAC athlete clocked a PB of 99.31 secodns with the standard at 101.94 seconds (95 percent of the event World Record).
‘You can count me out of any retirement plan for the moment,’ smiled Nick, who is unbeaten in events in Scottish Champs since he was U17 in 2010.
‘I love throwing and competing and I hope to carry on for a few more years yet. Hopefully I can inspire young Scottish throwers to develop and be a role model.
‘Chris and Kirsty have been brilliant for throws in Scotland. They have been around for the entirety of my career and great at giving advice and support.’
Izzy McHattie represented Scotland in javelin at the Loughborough International and came north to win the Senior Women’s gold with 43.32m.
As mentioned above, the 4J Senior Champs has integrated Para events and it was good to see our Frame Runners out on the track over a couple of distances.
Corstorphine AAC T71 athlete Chris Jaquin pushed to a PB over 100m and won on Raza points. He followed that up with fine PB performance over 400m.
In the 400m hurdles finals, there were wins for Sarah Pearson of Central Ac 1:01.25) and Ben Heron of North Ayrshire AC (52.05).
Scotland international Lorne Kerr glided clear to win the Women’s 400m in fine style in 54.61. Ben Heron duly added the 400m Men’s gold to his hurdles win, with 48.27 on the flat.
The 100m finals saw a home win for Holly Whittaker of Aberdeen AAC at 11.55 and for Krishawn Aiken of Kilbrarchan AAC at 10.34.

Sofia Vidak, representing Falkirk Vics, came up with one of the best wins of her career to take gold in the Women’s 800m.
Sofia went out hard to boldly lead Aberdeen AAC home favourite, Hannah Cameron, and while a gap of 10-15m at the bell was cut consderably on the home straight, she held on for the win.
‘I am signing the book for Senior Champions and 2:05 is the fastest winning time for a number of years,’ she said.
‘It is also inspiring to see names on their in the past ten years like Jemma Reekie, Sarah Calvert and Hannah herself.’
In the Women’s 5000m, there was Senior gold for Katie Rourke of Gala (16:54.30) and U20 gold for Charlotte Rose-Burton of Inverness Harriers (17:18.16)
