Nicole Yeargin sprinted through to the Glasgow 2026 Women’s 400m final – and two Scots reached the Women’s Mile final, too
Nicole qualified for the first major international final of a career well known for relay medals.
Jemma Reekie and Sarah Calvert, meanwhile, have a Saturday showdown to relish in the Women’s Mile.
Pitreavie AAC athlete Nicole was third in her race at 51.98 and that was enough to secure one of the qualifying places.
‘I am so delighted and that is my first championship final in individual Women’s 400m,’ she said.
‘I had so many people here in Glasgow watching and then others back in the States up at different times of the day to give me their support.’
In the Women’s Mile qualifying races, only the top six were assured or making it through to the final.
When the dust settled, two Scots out of three progressed to Saturdaynight’s final.
Jemma Reekie had suffered 800m pain only 12 or so hoursearlier but came back with a solid run to qualify in fourth place with 4:35.15. Two Australians in that heat look like medal contenders; Abbey Caldwell and Jess Hull.
Sarah Calvert then made it in the second race in sixth place. That doesn’t cover the drama of the finish as she clocked 4:32.04 – to make it by four hundredths from the diving Erin Wallace (4:32.08).
‘I wanted to pull Erin through to the final as well, of course, and I just saw her out of corner of my eye diving over the line,’ said Sarah.
Earlier in the day, our decathletes had started well with Callum Newby in fine form.
He opened with PB run of 10.76 in the 100m to win his race with Joel McFarlane ran 10.85.
In the long jump, Callum was close to his PB with 7.45m and Joal leapt to a best of 6.98m.
In the shot, Joel reached 13.05m and Callum 13.04.
After three events, Callum is lyinh sixth on 2507 points and Joel is eighth on 2373.
