Josh thrills Scotland with last lap surge

Global track stars are agreed: Glasgow 2026 helped save the Commonwealth Games.

And Team England sprinter Amy Hunt and Team Australia’s Jess Hull, with three silver medals between them at Scotstoun, were blown away by the warm welcome received in Scotland.

‘Everyone has been so kind and lovely,’ said Amy.

‘Everyone is so chatty, and I always say when I when I race in the UK, the fans are so lovely and polite, and then when they ask for pictures with you, there’s so many pleases and thank yous, and it’s something you don’t always get around the world.

‘I feel so kind of loved and appreciated and supported. I really did not expect the huge cheer when I came out and stood on the sideline of the semi, and then again for the final. So it was just amazing to have that home support.

‘I really wasn’t expecting that, and especially for people to stay behind and brave the rain. That was that was so kind of them, and yeah, it’s been an amazing atmosphere.

‘I think for a Games that’s kind of been thrust upon them, they’ve really stepped up to the mark and kind of taken it with such joy and such passion.

‘And yeah, I’m happy they can still put on the Games because it’s been a really great experience for me, obviously, but it’s a really great platform for so many kind of smaller countries to get the opportunity to shine on a global stage.’

Hull was second in both the Women’s Mile and the Women’s 5000m.

‘It’s so exciting that the Games are able to happen,’ said the popular Aussie.

‘I think even being here and being a part of it, it shows how important the Commonwealth Games are to the athletics calendar and to the wider athletics community – it’s such a stepping stone event.

‘I think it’s been really important for Glasgow to step up, and they’ve done a great job just filling the shoes and making sure these Games were staged.’
