Thanks for your support!
The 4J Age Group Champs are coming up this weekend in Aberdeen and we are delighted with the entry numbers.
Just over 750 athletes are entered to compete across the U20, U15 and U13 age categories at Aberdeen Sports Village.
In fact, the tally is 752 athletes which compares very favourably with 675 athletes entered on the last visit to Aberdeen for the 4J Age Groups ( in August 2023).
Event entry numbers have risen from 1199 on that previous occasion to 1330 so that’s a brilliant response from our track and field community.
Retaining athletes through their mid-teens and late-teens is a key issue for the sport and for ourselves as the governing body.
So delighted to confirm that for this weekend the U20 Women’s category is up by 41 percent on the last time in Aberdeen and even shows a five percent rise on last year at Grangemouth.
We have 142 athletes signed up in this category alone and the previous high for U20 Women is 133 athletes at Scotstoun in 2017.
Bigger fields creates more depth and better competition for everyone . . . and not just for those making finals or winning medals.
We are pleased to also confirm strong entry numbers for Grangemouth and the 4J Senior and U17 Champs on the weekend of August 23/24 (details next week).

‘We’re delighted with the entry numbers for the 4J Age Groups in Aberdeen this coming weekend,’ said Colin Hutchison, chief executive of scottishathletics.
‘The Aberdeen Sports Village is a superb facility and we know athletes and coaches like to compete there.
‘We always feel our National Championship events should be a key priority and target for the season and the response from clubs for the 4J Age Groups suggests that is the case.
‘Thank you to everyone for your support and, in advance, we say thanks to ASV staff, volunteers and our qualified scottishathletics Officials who will help us deliver the event over the two days.
‘We head to Grangemouth the following weekend and entry numbers are strong, too, for the 4J Senior and U17 Champs.
‘So we look forward to a very busy 10 days or so across the two venues and we feel sure these national championships will generate excitement and enthusiasm for athletes, coaches, spectators and Officials alike.’
