Sarah Calvert savoured silver medal success at the FISU World University Championships.
Five Scots were in action over the course of the week at the event in Rhine-Ruhr venues in Germany.
And the crowning glory for the cohort came late in the event as Sarah took a fine second place in the Women’s 1500m final on Sunday morning.
The Edinburgh Uni/Livingston athlete had been impressive in winning her heat. Come the final and a strong kick led her home in 4:20.18 with the gold won by Swiss athlete, Joceline Wind, at 4:19.86.
Well done to Sarah, her family, her coach and her university and club.
Phoebe Anderson, recently eligible for Scotland, competed in the Women’s 5000m.
A strong run in the heats saw Phoebe through to the final on Saturday night. There a run of 15:40.07 took her as close to the medals as is possible – finishing in fourth place.
It was a similar story for Stephen Mackenzie in the Men’s Long Jump competition.
The Edinburgh AC athlete did well in qualifying with 7.82 for third in his pool. Come the final and Stephen delivered a best leap of 7.75m to finish in fifth place.
Andrew Thomson of Fife AC featured in the men’s half marathon. The race took place early on Saturday morning and Andrew clocked 69:27. He was placed 37th in the field.
Amy Kennedy had been the first of the Scots to compete, early in the week in Germany. Amy was in the shot put and threw 14.46m.
Well done to all five Scots who competed for British Unis and savoured the World Unis championship experience.
