Without our Officials, there is no performance recorded (photo by Bobby Gavin at Pitreavie on Sunday)
From time to time we are asked what our tag-line #SALtogether actually means in terms of the delivery of our sport.
There was no better example than this past weekend and the 4J District Champs.
Events at three venues tests and stretches scottishathletics as a staff team but more importantly the superb volunteer workforce that are our qualified Officials.
So we needed help to deliver events in the East (at Dunfermline), West (at Kilmarnock) and the North (at Inverness).
Following our appeals – and with big support from three host clubs in Pitreavie AAC, Kilmarnock Harriers and Inverness Harriers – we were delighted to receive a number of offers of assistance from parents and club helpers.

Even beyond our Officials, of course, the sport happens only thanks to huge input from volunteer coaches as they help guide athletes.
With events (largely) for the U17/U15/U13 age groups this past weekend, that help for athletes along the pathway was very much in evidence at each of the three venues.
And then there are the club folk involved in a whole range of aspects including travel with island clubs like Stornoway, Orkney and Shetland making the journey to the North event at Inverness.
Everywhere you turned this weekend there were volunteers on duty – like Mhairi Ballantyne of our Young People’s Forum (and Kilmarnock Harriers) enjoying her stint as announcer at the West Districts.
We had help with photos from the North from Kellie Main of Nairn AAAC while Bobby Gavin – who on these weekends operates as a volunteer – did a big shift at the West on Saturday and then headed East on Sunday.
