It was a successful weekend for Scots, with top 10 finishes on the road and Commonwealth Games standards met in the field.
European Running Championships
Beth Potter was in action in Belgium over 10k. It was the first time Potter has represented GB&NI in athletics since 2017, having switched her main focus to triathlon in recent years, where she is a former World Champion and double Olympic medallist.
In wet conditions and on a tough course, there was a fast start from Nadia Battocletti (ITA) and Klara Lukan (SVK), with Potter part of the chasing group.
She finished 14th in a time of 32:16 as the second Brit behind Verity Ockenden (Swansea, 11th).
ERRA National Road Relays
Three Scottish clubs headed south of the border to compete in the English National Road Relay Championships in Sutton Park, Birmingham.
The men raced over 12 stages of 5.08km, while women raced over 6 stages.
In the men’s event, Central AC were top of the Scots, finishing 9th. Olympian Andy Butchart was back in action for the club, posting the joint 7th fastest split of the day (14:43). Corstorphine AAC finished 13th in the same event.
In the women’s race, Edinburgh AC put in a strong performance to also finish in the top 10 (9th). Kirsty Walker led the team out in what would be joint third fastest split of the day (17:04).
Oklahoma Throws Series World Invitational
It was a great weekend for the discus, with Nick Percy and Kirsty Law both in fine form in the states in a competition where the World Record was broken by Mykolas Alenka.
Percy threw an impressive 67.04m season’s best in Oklahoma, well inside the Commonwealth Games qualifying standard and just outside the qualification standard for the World Championships.
Law was also threw a season’s best, posting 58.12m and another Commonwealth Games standard.
