Track legend Tom McKean endorsed our 4J Studios U12s SUPERteams as a brilliant development event.
More than 350 of the youngest athletes at our clubs were at the Emirates Arena on Sunday to each try three individual events and a 4x200m relay.
With no fewer than 27 clubs represented from Inverness Harriers in the Highlands to Gala Harriers in the Borders – and various points in between – there was a superb atmosphere around the World Indoors Glasgow 2024 venue.
Making it all the more pleasing was the return to action for the U12 age group with there having been no indoor SUPERteams events at all last winter (as the venue was redeveloped and the focus on older athletes in our indoor events at Ayr, Dunfermline, Aberdeen and Grangemouth).
‘We’ve eight young athletes here and for four or five of them this is their very first taste of an athletics competition,’ said Motherwell AC coach Tom.
‘It can be overwhelming but the nerves settled after the first event and they are having fun and learning at the same time. The smiles are back on their faces.
‘All the Officials and all the coaches here have the same goal – to help teach youngsters how to enjoy themselves competing.
‘The volunteer support helps make these events and you can see the reaction and the enthusiasm of the young athletes.’
Huge thank you to all our team managers, parents, coaches and our Officials for their contribution to make the event happen.
Results and team scores are being scrutinised today (Monday) and we will update that as and when they are confirmed.
