Wins for Oliver, Niamh and Scotland U15 Boys at London Mini Marathon

Scotland’s Oliver Patton claimed a superb win at the London Mini Marathon in the Men’s U17 race.

The strong Scottish performances included a team win in the British Athletics Road Championships for our U15 Boys and a race win for Para athlete, Niamh Currie.

After finishing second in the U15 race in 2021 and seventh in 2022, Kilbarchan AAC’s Oliver was delighted to claim his U17 title in 7:27, five seconds ahead of North West’s Matthew Clark and London’s Thomas Chadwick.

‘It means a lot,’ said Oliver.

‘I’ve been second here before and I’ve always wanted to win this race, it’s such a massive race and an amazing event.

‘It’s super cool to know I’m following in the same footsteps as Mo Farah and Jake Wightman especially with Jake being Scottish. It’s great to follow what he’s doing and hopefully it’s the start of some great things to come.’

Patton is coached by Robert Hawkins. Oliver added: ‘Robert has been a great coach over the years, he took me in when I was 13 and we’ve got a really good group going at Kilbarchan AAC.’

Scotland U17 men were second in the British Champs in that race. The U17 Women took third with Amy Teasdale, also of Kilbarchan AAC, in fourth place.

The Scotland U15 Boys took gold medals in their race with Angus Wilkinson in fifth place and Calum Dick in seventh. Ray Taylor was tenth and Alastair Street in 11th.

The Scotland U15 Girls were in sixth place with Cerys Wright best-placed in 18th.

In the Para events, there was a fine win at T53/T54 for Niamh Currie. The young Scot clocked a PB, too, and enjoyed superb support from family in London.
