British Athletics World 100k selection story

Four athletes are among the first wave selected to represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the IAU World 100km Championships later this year.

The Championships will take place in Bengaluru, India, on 7 December 2024, and following the Trial race at the Sri Chinmoy 100km recently, four athletes confirmed their place on the squad.

And we are thrilled Dougie Selman is among them as the Corstorphine AAC athlete wins his first British vest after a strong club career in Scotland.

With the first two eligible British male and female athletes at the British 100k Championships automatically selected, the quartet of Dougie Selman (Corstorphine AAC), James Turner (Brighton & Hove AC), Sarah Webster (Northern (IOM) Athletic Club) and Melissah Gibson (Ealing Eagles Running Club) will pull on the British vest.

Selman was a narrow winner of the men’s race at the Trial, taking the British title by just 10 seconds ahead of Turner after a thrilling contest.

Selman’s time came in at 6:34:28 and Turner’s at 6:34:38, and that result saw the pair earn their maiden call-ups to the GB and NI squad.

Many congratulatins to Dougie and his family, his long-serving coach, Lewis Walker, and all at Corstorpine AAC o this selection.
