Scotland were represented by seven athletes at the Home International 5k Podium road race event in Cardiff on Saturday evening.

And there was a fine win for  Annabel Simpson in the Women’s race in Bute park as she came home in 15:51 after being at the front from start to finish. In doing so, the Fife AC athlete headed local favourite and Welsh Commonwealth Games athlete, Jennifer Nesbitt.

Megan Davies was 10th in 16:20 with those two backed up by Megan Keith in 13th (16:28) and Steph Pennycook at 15th (16:36).

The team prizes were decided by the combined scores of all four runners. England won by just 1 second over a very strong SportsShoes.com invitational team with Scotland in third place (and second nation).

Scotland men found the competition tougher with Angus McMillan best-placed at 12th (14:28) with Ben MacMillan 17th (14:38) and Alasdhair Kinloch 23rd (14:45).

At the front, there was no challenging local lad Jake Smith who comfortably took the lead and held off a last lap charge by the chasing pack to win in 14:05.

Unfortunately, Stuart McCallum missed out through injury.
