The Scottish ultra running community can celebrate again after exciting selection news from British Athletics.

Three Scottish athletes have been named within a 12-strong team to compete at the IAU European 24-Hour Champs. The event will take place in Verona in Italy in September.

Many congratulations to Jo Newens, Jo Zakrzewski and James Stewart and their families and support teams on their selections.

‘We are in a great position to select a strong team for the IAU 24 Hour European Championships,’ said Team Leader John Pares.

‘We’ve finished on the podium as a team at previous editions of the event, so we’ll be targeting that again, and individually we have some athletes who could also be challenging the best on the continent.’

Corey Campbell has already enjoyed an excellent 2022 with a number of good performances – and now the Team East Lothian athlete has made a superb start to the outdoor track season.

Corey raced over 3000m at the British Milers Club meet in Leeds on Monday evening.

And his 8:17.90 run will be a new Scottish U17 Record for the distance, subject to ratification.

Well done to Corey, his family and coach Alister Russell.

A member of our 4J National Athletics Academy, Corey himself held the Record previously with an 8:29.42 performance last autumn.
