#SALbelong! David Fallon joins us as new Head of Development

scottishathletics are pleased to confirm the appointment of David Fallon as our new Head of Development.

The current Head of Development with Scottish Squash will join us early next month after impressing during our recruitment process.

Colin Hutchison’s move to take up the CEO role earlier this year created the Head of Development vacancy and drew strong interest from some excellent candidates.

David led on programmes and initiatives at Scottish Squash to broaden the sport’s appeal and has a passion for development.

He also has event experience from the 2014 Commonwealth Games in judo and wrestling. A veteran American footballer in East Kilbride, he holds voluntary positions on the Boards of Scotland Rugby League and Scottish Women in Sport.

David’s clear remit now will be to lead our Development Team in working together with clubs, coaches, volunteers and Officials to restore momentum and build growth as we emerge from Covid-19.

‘We’re delighted to announce the appointment of David Fallon as our new Head of Development and look forward to working with David when he joins us early in May,’ said Colin Hutchison.

‘It’s a fundamental role for scottishathletics and for athletics in Scotland and never has it been more important than at the moment as Scottish sport starts to emerge from the global pandemic.

‘We’ve a strong Development team already in place and after a comprehensive recruitment process we feel David will be a great addition to the team and work closely with our clubs and volunteers to recover momentum and build growth in the next few years.

‘Prior to the pandemic there was already a strong link between scottishathletics and the member clubs but there are aspects of the last year which I believe have actually strengthened the link further and that’s a good starting point for David and the Development team to work from.’

‘I’ve always been aware of the great work the organisation has been doing through the wider sporting network.

‘I’m really looking forward to meeting the wider staff team, and all the great clubs, coaches and volunteers out there who are all part of the constant success and growth of athletics in Scotland.

‘It is clear that the organisation has some strong and admirable values at its core, and that really resonates with me.

‘Athletics is such a broad and accessible sport and the organisation has demonstrated tremendous and consistent growth, but also equal growth. It really is amazing to see the gender balance and equality in the scottishathletics membership.’
