There was good news for athletics in Scotland once again in the latest Queen’s Honours List.
Endurance coach, Sophie Dunnett, has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the New Year’s List.
It’s a reflection on a big commitment to our sport by Highland-based Sophie and also an encouragement for female coaching in athletics.
And Highland Games official, David Adamson, made it two BEM recipients with his award. David is from Burntisland in Fife.
Sophie most prominently coaches Andy Douglas, the GB international hill runner who won the WMRA World Cup individual series gold in 2019.
She also has her own endurance coaching business which offers client advice and support in all areas of endurance running.
Everyone at scottishathletics would like to add our congratulations to Sophie and the Dunnett family on a well-deserved accolade.
The Honours List citations state that Sophie’s award was for ‘services to amateur athletics in Scotland’ while David, who is Honorary Chieftain for the Burntisland Highland Games, receives his for ‘services to athletics and the community of Burntisland’.
Everyone at scottishathletics sends congratulations to David and his family.
Much deserved recognition for the countless hours dedicated to coaching, the sport and its impact in the community- take a well earned bow @DunnettSophie ! https://t.co/qVug4qVMCD
