scottishathletics have decided to continue with our Annual Awards for 2020 – with support from 4J Studios – because there remain so many success stories in our sport.

So now we are looking once again from help from the community to give us nominations in a number of categories before our special celebration programme on YouTube on Saturday 10 October.

We need nominations in categories covering clubs, coaches, Volunteer and Official of the Year.

Well-known coach and Official Mark Stringer collected the Volunteer of the Year Award at our Annual Dinner last year and Mark is exactly the kind of individual making a big contribution to the sport during 2020.

‘This award allows us to reflect on the great impact of the thousands of volunteers that contribute to the development of athletics clubs in Scotland every year and recognise one individual as our Volunteer of the Year,’ said Colin Hutchison, our Head of Development.

This year, we are particularly interested in hearing about the work of volunteers during the Covid-19 pandemic to keep athletes active and to engage them with their club and/or the sport.

‘I think we have all been aware via social media that some individuals at certain clubs have been making a massive effort to keep people connected and to continue to drive interest in the sport despite the barriers to physically meeting up which have presented by coronavirus.

‘Nominations should outline the reasons why you think the individual has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to the sport and the club, and what you believe they have done to set them apart from all other volunteers in athletics in Scotland.’
