The Emirates Arena will be back as the centre of attention for track and field in the UK this weekend – as the SPAR British Champs come to Scotland.

Medals and glory are the prizes on offer when athletes line up on Saturday and Sunday at the Glasgow venue with tickets still available online.

It’s a good chance for Scottish athletes to enjoy a ‘home game’ in British Championship terms and that is reflected in a lot of local interest in the entry lists.

Unfortunately, the cancellation of the World Indoors in China has or course removed the GB team trials element but hopefully the push for podium places will still be very competitive and lead to exciting events.

Guy Learmonth and Josh Kerr finished third and fourth over 800m at the Muller GP last weekend and will return to the same track looking for medals over four laps.

And Scottish Record holder Nikki Manson is looking for high jump success to crown what has been a terrific indoor season.

Alisha Rees will be of a similar mind and Heather Paton and Adam Thomas also return north after racing in Glasgow at the Muller GP in the Women’s 60m Hurdles and Men’s 60m respectively.

In other field events, Scots on the start-lists include Sarah Warnock, David Smith, Jax Thoirs, Courtney MacGuire, Stephen Mackenzie, Alessandro Schenini and Mhairi Porterfield.
