Mark Telford funeral details; Sammi in Switzerland

scottishathletics were saddened recently to learn of the passing of Para athlete Mark Telford.

The Carluke athlete was an excellent wheelchair racer, one of Scotland’s best over the years, and enjoyed a number of successes including a win in the 2016 Great North Run Wheelchair event.

We are now able to share funeral details:

Monday 10 June at 2.30pm

Cremation at Holytown Crematorium, Memorial Way, Holytown, Motherwell ML1 5RU. Thereafter to Dalziel Park Hotel & Golf Club, 100 Hagen Drive, Motherwell ML1 5RZ.

Message from the family:

‘Brian, Andy and I do hope you can join us on the day in celebration of Sparky’s life.

‘Please wear casual clothing, even your gym, cycling or running kit. No flowers please, but donations may be made at the crematorium to The Spinal Injuries Unit at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow.’

A couple of our Para athletes were at the Swiss Wheelchair Champs last weekend.

Sammi Kinghorn won both T53/54 overall titles over 100m (16.96) into a strong headwind and 200m in the fastest time in the world this year (29.05) with a 3rd place in both 400m (55.61/56.17 final) and 800m (1.47.96) just outside her own European record.

Ben Rowlings (Stirling Uni) PBs over 100m (16.00) 200m (27.51) for 2nd place in T33/34 class and 400m (51.65) best ever time for 800m for 2 years in the earlier heats in 1.40.89.
