Eilish sets Course Record at Leeds 10K
European Championship medallist Eilish McColgan is set to race for Scotland at the Leeds Abbey Dash 10K next month.
McColgan won silver in the 5000m in Berlin and will now lead our female selection for the race in Yorkshire on Sunday 4 November.
Luke Traynor, the Scottish Half Marathon champion after the Great Scottish Run last weekend, is the top-ranked pick for the Scotland men’s team for Leeds.
It’s always a terrific race which is conducive to PB performances and Scottish athletes have delivered some good times in recent years – including 32.05 course record run from Eilish.
Current form was taken into account as part of the selection process including the Scottish 10K Champs at Stirling and recent races in Inverness and Glasgow.
Under the Road Running and Cross Country Commission guidelines, one athlete in each team is U23.
Here are the Scotland teams:
Women:
Eilish McColgan (Dundee Hawkhill, Liz McColgan)
Mhairi Maclennan (Edinburgh Uni Hare and Hounds, John Lees)
Steph Pennycook (Edinburgh Uni Hare and Hounds, John Lees)
Annabel Simpson (Fife AC, Steve Doig) U23
Men:
Luke Traynor (Giffnock North AC, Robert Hawkins)
Adam Craig (Edinburgh AC, Matthew van Lierop)
Grant Sheldon (Cambuslang Harriers)
Euan Gillham (Kilbarchan AAC, Robert Hawkins)
Many congratulations on their selections to all these athletes and their families and coaches from all at scottishathletics.
