
It was a Record-breaking weekend for young Scots across track and field,
From Relays to sprints to endurance and Combined Events, our U20 and U18 athletes excelled in Germany and in England.
Let’s start with those who did much more than just get the baton round in Mannheim . . .
There was a Senior Scottish Record for our Women’s 4x100m U20 team with a superb team effort.
The quartet of Holly Whittaker, Sophie Thomas, Emma Clark, Cara Monachello won the race as they beat GB Juniors, France, Belgium, Swistzerland..
That time bettered the existing Senior and U20 marks for Women’s 4x100m.
Congratulations to the athletes, families, coaches and club.
On Sunday, our Mixed Relay 4x100m U20 team in Germany posted an U20 Record.
The team ran 42.98 seconds thanks to the efforts of Kian Redman, Kishi Aremu, Owen Murphy, Emma Clark.
Also in Mannheim in an individual sense . . .
*Sophie Thomas broke the Scottish U20 Record in Women’s 200m. The Dunfermline Track and Field athlete clocked 23.22 – a European Lead at U20.
*Emma Clark clocked 23.90 for a European U18 standard.
*Holly Whittaker PB at 100m 13.59 and Ben Thompson PB at 200m with 21.89.
*Luc MacLeod represented GB and NI U20 .
Back in Britain, there was a strong performance at the British Milers Meet event in Loughborough.
Josh Mungin of Kilbarchan AAC clocked 1:46.90 for new Scottish U20 Record in the Men’s 8000m.
And to complete the good news in terms of developing athletes, there was an addition to recent Combined Events success in Stuttgart
Airdrie Harriers athlete Dionne Maguinness tallied 5438 points – to land a new Scottish U18 Record.
