Direct Scottish interest in the 2025 World Champs in Tokyo ended a day early with a couple of disappointing performances.
First, through the night our time, Nick Percy placed 33rd overall in the Men’s discus.
Then the GB and NI Women’s 4x400m relay quartet – with Nicole Yeargin on the third leg – missed out on porgress from the heats to the final with a poor collective effort.
It was good to see Nick represent GB and Ni in the World Champs despite a difficult build-up to competing.
Nick threw 57.08m for33rd overall.
It was not what he had hoped for but we are aware he suffered a head injury at the training camp some ten days ago. He was sunalbe to train because of concussion protocols.
‘My performance still should have been better,’ said the Scottish Record holder.
‘Ralford Mullings is one of the best guys in the world this year and he came behind me.
‘The standard at the top is just insane. 65 metres gets you sixth, that’s insane for this competition. It’s an amazing championships to be a part of but there are reflections and adjustments needed for next year.’

The British 4x400m team of Victoria Ohuruogu, Poppy Malik, Nicole and Yemi Mary John clocked 3:25.84 but could finished last in their race.
Nicole took over in last and had a solid enough split of 50.8 seconds for her third leg run.
‘I did not expect to be way at the back when I got the baton. We always practice being second and third and we have the potential to be there, so it was just different today.
‘I tried my best, but my best just wasn’t good enough today.’
