Young throwers enjoy Scotland vest opportunity at event in Loughborough

Monday 2nd June 2025

Scottish throwers headed south at the weekend to compete at the Shaun Pickering Memorial event at Loughborough.

And they performed with distinction with no fewer than four Personal Best performances achieved from a team of seven athletes.

There was also a really good team spirit with the Scots helping generate at atmosphere particularly in the shot events.

Sophie Robertson enjoyed an excellent day as the Cumbernauld AAC athlete won the U18 Hammer with a new PB of 58.78. Sophie took home an award for the outstanding young hammer thrower at the event.

Kilmarnock Harriers were represented by the Mitchell brothers in the shot and it was a good day with PBs for Logan at 16.19m and Rhian at 15.98m.

VP-Glasgow’s Ava Mitchell also had a PB in the shot with a throw of 13.37m. Zak Fearn of Inverness Harriers was within a couple of cms of his javelin PB with a throw of 60.02 – a great performance in his first appearance for Scotland.

Perth Strathtay’s Freya Howgate (U23) and Cumbernauld’s Amy Kennedy (U23) couldn’t quite board the PB train but both performed well.
