Entries Close Thursday: clubs asked to give us names for Lindsays District XC Relays

The cross country season is just about with us.

And we’re keen as ever to encourage athletes and coaches to get involved in group training session which have the goal of raising overall standards.

In recent years, we’ve seen these take place in Glasgow, Edinburgh and the North District.

The Edinburgh Endurance Sessions start this Saturday – September 23 – and the schedule has been agreed through to the British Cross Challenge races at Liverpool at the end of November.

Saturday 23 September: 8 mins T (2 mins rec), 8-12 x 2 mins (90 sec rec), 8 mins T (2 mins rec)

Saturday 30 September: 4mins (2 mins rec), 5 mins (2 mins rec), 6 mins (2 mins rec), 6 mins (2 mins rec), 5 mins (2 mins rec), 4 mins

Saturday 28 October: 2 x 6mins T (2), then up to 6 x 3 mins (2), 1 x 6mins T

Saturday 11 November:  6-10 x 4 mins (2 mins rec)

These will take place at Holyrood Park and the sessions are for U17 athletes and older. The first rep is at 10.30am.

Glasgow sessions 

The Glasgow XC sessions are always very popular and are open to those in the U15 age group (for XC) and above. All sessions start with the first rep at 10.30am,.

And the first of six sessions will take place on Saturday 14 October – the week after the Lindsays District XC Relays in the West.

Saturday 14 October: Bellahouston Park (meet near the pitch & putt) 4-6 x 3 mins with 2 mins recovery

Saturday 11 November: Pollok Park (meet at Netherpollok playing fields) 5-10 min tempo 10 x 1 min with 1 min recovery, 5-10 min tempo

Saturday 16 December: Tollcross Park (meet near the park run finish); 4-8 x 4 mins with 2 mins recovery

Thursday 28 December: Bellahouston Park (meet near the pitch & putt); 6-10 x 3 mins with 1 min recovery

Saturday 27 January: Pollok Park (meet at Netherpollok playing fields) 5-10 min tempo 10 x 1 min with 1 min recovery, 5-10 min tempo

Saturday 10 February: Tollcross Park (meet near the parkrun finish) 4-8 x 4 mins with 90 secs recovery

North District sessions take place in Forres at Grant Park and are led by John Newsom and Paul Rogan,

These are for U15 athletes and older and, as in Edinburgh and Glasgow, the first reps go off at 10.30am.
