The Scottish Mid-Trail Champs made a successful return to the calendar at Falkland Estate after an absence of three years.

With around 275 names on the start list, there was good support once again for an event ably organised by Fife AC and their team of volunteers.

Central AC’s Hamish Hickey and Gala Harriers athlete Sara Green took the Men’s and Women’s golds respectively after races over around 10k in the scenic backdrop of Falkland.

The standard was high at the front of the Men’s race and Hamish duly took gold in a tight finish with only six seconds separating him from Lasswade AC’s Christian Graham. Corstorphine AAC’s James Dunn took third.

Central AC landed the team golds from Fife AC and Dundee Hawkhill Harriers.

The margin of victory was just over 30 seconds in the Women’s race with Sara clear of silver medallist, Alice Goodall of Edinburgh Uni Hare and Hounds.

Catriona MacDonald of Bellahouston Road Runners landed the bronze and the team golds were headed for Cambuslang Harriers.

There were U20 gold medals for Louisa Brown of Garscube and Alastair Marshall of Central AC in that (with both placed fourth overall).

PH Racing enjoyed a Masters success at V40 level thanks to a strong run from Andrew Davis. The Women’s V40 Masters gold went to race winner Sara Green.

In the Men’s Masters age bands there were title wins as follows: M50 Iain MacLeod (Corstorphine AAC), M60 Jeff Farquhar (Pitreavie AAC), M70 Tony Martin (Fife AC).

In the Women’s Masters age bands, there were title wins as follows: W50 Karen Dobbie (Edinburgh AC), W40 Innes Bracegirdle (Fife AC), W70 Linden Nicholson (Lasswade AAC).

The U17 Women’s podium at Falkland

The U17 Women’s title went to Millie McClelland-Brooks of Inverclyde/Glasgow School of Sport, as the team golds were claimed by East Kilbride AC.

The silvers went to Stornoway RAC, with the Western Isles club having brought a 16-strong group across land and sea to race in Fife!

In the U17 Men’s race, the title went to Sam McCarthy of Cambuslang Harriers and that led his team to gold with silver medals for East Kilbride AC.

Our U17 Men’s medallists at Falkland

Our U15 champions were Magnus Lawson of Team East Lothian and Nancy Corrie of Harmeny AC.

The boys golds went to Harmeny with the silvers to Garscube and in the girls race the winners were Gala with Stornoway taking home a second set of age group silver medals.

Our U13 and U11 races were well-supported and were run as development races, the idea being these are used to help introduce some of the youngest athletes at our clubs into trail running (perhaps even as a taster for the cross country season ahead).

Big thank you to all the athletes, coaches and clubs who supported this event and thanks to Fife AC for their hard work as host club once again.
