Jax Thoirs: National record at Grangemouth, Native Record at Hampden

Lynsey Sharp and Laura Muir have had Scottish National records at middle distance confirmed by scottishathletics.

The Track and Field Commission of the sport’s governing body has recognised a series of performances over the course of the 2014 summer season.

And those include middle distance records broken by the Team Scotland pair in Zurich and Paris.

Laura broke the 1500m record held by Yvonne Murray in a Diamond league race in the French capital on July 5. The Dundee Hawkhill Harriers athlete clocked 4.00.07 with a fantastic run to eclipse both Murray and Liz Lynch in the record books.

Lynsey broke the 800m record held by Susan Scott at the European Championships in Switzerland on August 16 en route to a silver medal. The Edinburgh AC athlete ran 1.58.80.

Jax Thoirs cleared 5.61m in pole vault at Grangemouth on July 2 and that has been rubberstamped as a National/Native Indoor Record.

There is also confirmation that the Scotland 4 x 400m men’s team at the Commonwealth Games – Kris Robertson, Jamie Bowie, Greg Louden, Grant Plenderleith – set a National Record in their heat on the Friday night at Hampden. The quartet ran 3.03.94.

Among younger age groups, there was an impressive U17 run at 1500m by Josh Kerr when winning the England Athletics title. The Edinburgh AC athlete clocked 3.52.46 to beat a record which had been held by Glen Stewart for 27 years.
