Josh lands Sportsperson of the Year and Steve, Billy win top awards, too

The Scottish Sports Awards earlier this month proved to be a good night for athletics in Scotland.

Josh Kerr was the headline-grabber in the most part as he won not one but two of the key titles.

Josh was named Male Athlete of the Year and then crowned with the overall Scottish Sportsperson of the Year award.

But here we turn the focus on two more award winners that night in Glasgow who deserve all the plaudits coming their way – even if both are modest to a fault.

Steve Doig won the prestigious Coach of the Year title for Scottish sport after an amazing 2023. Three of Steve’s athletes contested the T20 1500m World Champs final in Paris – with Ben Sandilands taking gold.

Billy Roberton won the Community Hero award – to the obvious delight and pride of Kilmarnock Harriers. Billy is well-known figure in Ayrshire and beyond and his selfless dedication to his club made him a worthy winner.
