Selected for Scotland: Eight young hill runners will head for Spain

Wednesday 22nd May 2024

Scotland are sending young hill runners to the International Youth Cup once again this year.

The annual U18 Mountain Cup takes place on Saturday 22 June and will be in Montaรฑa Palentina in Spain.

Young mountain runners from Europe and beyond will tackled the 6k course which features 290m ascent/descent.

And we are delighted this year to give an international opportunity to eight young Scottish hill runners.

In previous years, this selection has been six athletes but such is the depth in our age group hill running that scottishathletics were keen to expand the opportunity and feel it is appropriate in terms of performances at the trials.

Scotland teams:

Elsa McGregor (Edinburgh AC), Ava Richardson (Gala), Jessica Taylor (Edinburgh AC), Ruth Walsh (Giffnock North)

James Alexander (Garscube), Andrew Grant (Strathearn), Rowan Taylor (Lasswade), Lachlan Thomas (Ross County)

Congratulations to each of these young athletes and their families and coaches on being selected for Scotland.

Great to see seven different clubs represented and indeed a spread across the length and breadth of the country from Ross County in the North to Gala Harriers in the Borders.

With thanks to Angela Mudge
