Sarah selected for Euro Team Champs

Sarah Tait will make her GB and NI senior debut this weekend as the new Scottish steeplechase Record-holder competes in the European Team Championships.

The West Virginia University/Lasswade AC athlete is headed to Madrid after returning from the United States where she  has been in superb form.

And as Sarah prepared to join up with British Athletics for the trip to Spain she was very keen to highlight and credit coaches on both sides of the Atlantic for guiding her progress.

‘I’ve been really lucky to have had the support of a fantastic team at West Virginia University, which enabled me to make the jump in performance this year,’ she told us.

‘I’m extremely grateful to coach Sean Cleary for bringing me to this stage.

‘However, all of this would not have been possible without Kirk and Linda Smith, who have coached me at Lasswade AC from when I was 12 years old. I can’t thank them enough for what they’ve done for me with unwavering support and direction.

‘I’m incredibly lucky to have such a supportive team around me and I look forward for what’s to come!’

Sarah clocked 9:27.80 to break Eilish McColgan’s existing Scottish Women’s 3000m steeplechase Record.

‘I’m incredibly excited to race this weekend, especially because it’s my senior debut.

‘So far, this season has been beyond all expectations. Finishing my collegiate career at the NCAA finals at Hayward Field was an unforgettable experience, and placing fourth with a new personal best and Scottish record further added to the excitement

‘Eilish has been mentoring me for several years and has always thought that I will be the one to beat her record. She’s an excellent role model for me, and I greatly appreciate her support.’
