Women new 4x100m mark and Alyson, Georgina sub 11.40; Laura PB

Saturday 10th June 2023

It has been another exciting weekend for top Scottish athletes with fine performances delivered.

There was great news on Saturday lunch-time for our Relay Project.

The Women’s quartet of Rebecca Matheson, Sarah Malone, Alyson Bell and Georgina Adam clocked 44.56 to set a new Scottish National Record at 4x100m (subject to the usual processes).

The Record had been set at 44.75 twice last year en route to the Commonwealth Games.

Well done to these athletes and coaches and their families and clubs.

Scotland Men were at 40.13 thanks to the efforts of Krishawn Aiken, Finlay Waugh, Ethan Pottie and Adam Thomas, with Cian O’Donnell also on the trip to Switzerland.

*There were some superb individual performances in Switzerland, too.

Alyson Bell took her PB for the 100m to 11.31 to move to second on the all-time list. And Georgina Adam is now third with 11.39 in the same race. Absolutely brilliant to see this kind of sprints progress.

And Carys McAulay is now at 51.57 for the 400m to move to seventh place on the all-time list. Jack Lawrie ran a Season’s Best 50.45 in the 400m Hurdles.

There were more good performances at the BMC meet in Loughborough later on Saturday . . .

Tendai Nyabadza clocked 3:42.33 in his 1500m run to move to fifth in our U20 all-time list.

Sarah Calvert posted a Euro U23 standard with 4:13.17 over 1500m and Megan Davies improved her PB for that distance, too, with a run of 4:12.76.

Laura Muir clocked a new PB over 5000m in the Paris Diamond League meet.

But the multiple medallist admitted she had been looking for more than her 14:48.14 time in a race which saw a second World Record in a week for the amazing Kipyegon.

Laura feels she he is 14:30 shape for an event she had not raced for six years since the 2017 World Champs.

‘Am I happy with that? No. I am in shape to run sub 14:30 so it’s a wee bit disappointing I’ve not shown that in the race.

‘But I’ve a bit of learning to do in the event and it is still a PB by a second or so from my indoor time.’

Thanks to Stuart Weir in Paris for our video interview with Laura.
