Progress report: Alyson sprint joy then Mile duo Josh and Jake also qualify

Big guns Josh Kerr and Jake Wightman are anticipating a stunning Scotstoun showdown in the Commonwealth Mile.

The Team Scotland duo made it through to Saturday’s final but Neil Gourley’s tough year saw him exit in the heats.

Earlier, in the Women’s 200m sprints, Alyson Bell had sped to second place in her heat with SB run of 23.38 and comfortably progressed to the semi-finals.

Heptathlete Allie Routledge was also in action as she took on the Long Jump and the javelin as she sought to improve her Scotstoun points score.

Josh was the sole Scot in heat one and the man who broke the World Record for the mile in London clearly relished the occasion.

He took the crowd’s acclaim on the start-line and just under four minutes later he had another race win under his belt at 3:58.57. Australian Ollie Hoare was an early faller but the defending champion was later reinstated. So 13 men will contest the final.

Neil and Jake sought to cover the moves made by another Australian, Cam Myers, in heat two. But around the bell Neil lost places and never looked like recovering.

In that quicker race, Myers won in 3:53.85 and Jake was second in 3:54.05.

Those times were inside the existing Commonwealth Games Championship Best.

In the heptathlon, Allie jumped 5.46m and threw the javelin 38.77m.
