Sport Excel team announcement

Two Scottish Para athletes are heading for a major event in Australia next month.

Sport Excel UK are proud and excited to announce the athletes and staff who will represent Great Britain at the Virtus World Athletics Championships, taking place in Brisbane, Australia from 8–15 October 2025.

Making her international debut, we are thrilled to welcome Sadie Graham-Mulvaney (Newport, Gwent) to the GB Team.

Sadie joins an experienced and talented group of returning athletes — Martina Barber (Stevenage, Hertfordshire), James McKibbin (Barnstaple, Devon), Matthew Power (Edinburgh, Mid-Lothian), Sam Fernando (Cupar, Fife), and Daniel Wolff (Wallington, Surrey) — all ready to showcase their skills once again on the global stage.

The team will be led by Kerry Newell (Cranham, Gloucestershire), appointed as GB Team Manager/Head Coach for the first time.

Kerry will be supported by experienced team member Liz Power (Edinburgh, Mid-Lothian) (Escort/Team Support & Assistant Coach) — returning for her third GB team — and Mike Paterson (Barnstaple, Devon), making his international debut in an Escort/Support role.

Congratulations to athletes, their families, coaches and clubs.

Scottish Disability Sport recently held their annual awards for 2025.

And there was significant success for athletics even though the World Para Champs is coming soon in India.

Ben Sandilands won the Findlay Calder Trophy after an excellent 12 months which started with his Paralympic gold medal in Paris last summer.

Great to see recognition, too, for Gordon Innes of VP-Glasgow for his tireless work with Para athletes. Gordon was awarded the Russell Hogg Trophy.

Congratulations!
