WATCH: Oslo interviews with Josh and Neil; Erin sub two for 800m

Friday 16th June 2023

Josh Kerr and Neil Gourley came up with fast times in a remarkable Oslo Diamond League Men’s 1500m race.

Local hero Jakob Ingebrigtsen followed the blistering pace and duly set a new European Record in 3:27.95.

Behind the Norwegian there were all manner of records and PBs, including an American Record and an Australian Record, and the Scottish duo were reasonably satisfied despite Josh finishing ninth and Neil tenth.

Olympic medallist Josh clocked 3:30.07 in the second fastest 1500m run of his career. Neil for his part took two seconds off his PB to post 3:30.88.

The Giffnock North AC athlete thus moved above Chris O’Hare in our all-time rankings and into the top three.

As the Bislett Games closed, the GB and NI Women’s 4x400m team stormed to a win in their relay race. Carys McAulay featured in the team with Ama Pipi, Lina Nielsen and Nicole Kendall as they finished in 3:28.38

The previous evening the good news around Scottish middle distance running came from Watford.

Erin Wallace came up with one of the best performances of her career at the BMC meet.

The  Giffnock North AC athlete went sub two minutes for 800m for the first time in her career as she clocked 1:59.69 and edged out Reeve Walcott-Nolan. That time takes Erin to number five on our all-time list for Women;s 800m outdoors.

Great to see after some injury issues in recent years and exciting times ahead. Well done to Erin and her family, coach and club.
